
I can’t really blame the building owner for bricking up the windows, but it’s still doesn’t feel right. Bricked-up windows always feel like a sign of constraint, of being locked in, like a jail. This window would look out onto a dark alley but still, a view of the outside is always better.
I took this on one of my lunchtime walks around the city. I found myself on Briar Lane, the alley behind the newish YMCA building at the corner of Sackville and South Park Streets. I just liked the contrast of the white heart against the cold, dark brick and the soulless bricked-up window.
