I walked for what seemed like forever in Lisbon, and the Azores after. There is so much to see. Up high at the Miradouro da Graça terrace where there are sweeping views of the rooftops below and the water and castle in the distance, there is a medieval — but rebuilt after an earthquake — church complex that provides a quiet respite from the crowds.
The Igreja da Graça de Lisboa — Church of Our Lady of Grace in English — is a lovely, simple group of religious buildings, complete with grassy cloister and bright white stone of the convent buildings attached to the church. This photo was taken just inside the front doors of the convent as the strong afternoon sun filtered through the windows. I was using a circular polarizer filter on my camera that really popped the muted colours and I think the quiet of the space really comes through.
