In April 2014 my brother and I took a whirlwind 10-day tour of three Chinese cities: Shanghai, Nanjing and Beijing. There was so much to see and the people were friendly and welcoming. There are more word and photos in the post 10 Days in China.

Across the river from the Bund, Pudong is futuristic, especially at night. — Pudong district, Shanghai

One of the things that fascinates me about cities are the organic parts, away from the skyscrapers. These alleys offer a glimpse of everyday life. — Alley, Shanghai

This pet shop was amazing. All manner of living creatures were for sale from crickets and meal worms to birds and lizards. — Pet shop, Shanghai

By far my favourite part of Shanghai was the French Concession. Narrow, winding streets leading in every direction. So much to explore. — Narrow street, French Concession, Shanghai

This section was a couple of hours north of Beijing. An amazing piece of engineering. — Great Wall of China

Another beautiful temple, and seemingly endless. I think you'd need at least two days to hike to the other end. — Forbidden City, Beijing

Lots of western stores along here, and tens of thousands of people. — Shopping district, Shanghai

I just had to see this square, location of protests in 1989. The amount of surveillance was incredible. — Forbidden City from Tiananmen Square
