I decided to take my large-format view camera up on the roof of my building to try a couple of exposures using some tilt-shift effect. It’s very easy to do with a view camera that has full movements. So, to achieve this effect I simply tilted the whole camera and monorail forward, then applied a front tilt backwards. This does crazy things to the plane of focus as you can see. There are lots of explanations on the web if you’re interested in the technical and psychological aspects of how and why this looks the way it does.
I took two sheets on the roof, this one looking down onto Hollis Street and the other looking down onto Lower Water Street. They both turned out better than I expected, so I may post the Lower Water Street exposure as well.
