Sometimes when you just want to finish a roll of film you point your camera at something banal, click the shutter and advance the film until you hear the backing paper flipping around the take-up spool. Roll done, time to develop and see what kind of mess you’ve made.
Sometimes that last shot, that throwaway speaks something to you. Perhaps because there was no thought put into it, it has no expectations of greatness, or even mediocrity.
I’ve been lucky to have been able to take as many photos as I’ve wanted. Most are forgettable and frustrating, but every once in a while a simple, quiet shot makes it worthwhile.
