At this hour I shed a tear for my former walk everywhere life. It’s now been 30 days since I step foot on a sidewalk. My shoes sit unused. Narrow downtown sidewalks, speeding traffic, useless civic leadership.
It’s hard to believe it’s been a month inside already. I also have to remember I’m one of the lucky ones. I have a nice-sized apartment with a decent view of the harbour and balcony to sit on. So many people don’t have those and are likely feeling quite trapped in their surroundings.
I don’t live in one of those progressive cities that have closed down roads to allow for safer outdoor exercise. I live in a city that gives $700-1000 fines for having the gall to want to sit on a small patch of grass or walk the neighbourhood.
