Using PHP and cURL to post to the Mastodon API

Screenshot of Mastodon web interface As my distaste for Twitter has grown over the last while I decided to see if I could deploy my own instance of Mastodon, a federated, distributed social network. Turns out I had my instance up and running in just a few hours using a $10 a month Digital Ocean Docker droplet and the handy Mastodon docker containers. It was way easier than I thought it would be and allowed to mess around with the API without causing too much havoc. I’ve long since moved to the indieweb.social instance, it has a much better local timeline and has an excellent admin. You can find me there at @chrisjonesio@indieweb.social.

Getting Titular

Most of the time I just screw around with things on this site, trying to figure out new technology and generally just breaking stuff that no one really looks at. It’s good and helpful and makes me better at what I do. Problem is, I never write about what I learn. It’s the same old story: sure, I’ve been doing this for 20+ years but I’m a dummy and no one wants to read about the lessons of a dummy. It makes perfect sense in my head don’t ya know. This post is an attempt to not be like that sometimes, maybe.
